Demos/Urhahn Urban Design
Joost joined the think tank Demos in 2005 and works on projects that address the interplay between the built environment and social change. He co-authored and contributed to a range of Demos publications, such as BCN_LDN (2007), a collection of essays on urban governance and citizen participation published together with the Barcelona think tank Fundació Ramon Trias Fargas; Equally Spaced (2007), which explored practical strategies to increase interaction between diverse communities through public realm and community space interventions; and Seen & Heard, an exploration of public space through the eyes of children and young people. He is currently involved in a series of research, urban strategy and social innovation projects such as with the Watershed digital media centre in Bristol.
Joost is also an Associate of Urhahn Urban Design, a practice based in Amsterdam, where he has worked on economic regeneration and housing masterplans and studies. He is a fellow of the RSA.
