Introduction

The concept of ‘green infrastructure’ brings together decades of sustainable thinking with a 21st century multi-dimensional approach to services in urban and rural areas of the UK. In order for UK plc to embrace the economic upsurge in 2012(?) our infrastructure needs to be readdressed. Now is an opportunity to merge our ambitions for green standards and technologies with our everyday landscape. With government in command of investment capital, there is a great opportunity to plan out future systems of energy provision, transportation and projects that simutaneously provide economic stimulus with a network, which future communities to plug into.

BY 2029:

What will these networks comprise of with no fossil fuels?

Is an all electric economy achievable?

At what level can architects, engineers and developers contribute to the design and insertion of green systems into the cityscape?

Will a strategic approach to the planning of services take the market place with it?
