The Urban Futures Game, is part of the Building Futures initiative between CABE and the RIBA. The new card game, recently piloted in Luton and Burnley, highlights the benefits of working with the local community to create a clear vision for an area to successfully tackle long-term urban change.
Through a card game, Urban Futures gives different interest groups policy makers, service providers and local community members – the opportunity to engage in the debate and prioritise aspirations, concerns and options for change. Urban Futures is based on the premise that, if you can give people a meaningful framework in which to work, they are able to think constructively about the future of their neighbourhoods. The informal nature of a game allows participants to break-away from the tendency to think of short-term priorities but allows those involved to formulate a long-term vision for what they want their neighbourhood to look and feel like.
